Kunming, the capital of Yunnan Province situated in China's South West, is a famous travel destination in the country. The city enjoys a pleasant climate and gains the title of "the City of Eternal Spring". It has been inhabited by the Chinese for 2000 years. One of Kunming's best features is its ideal climate - not too cold in the winter and not too hot in the summer, welcoming travelers all year round. From May to October, the city experiences rainy weather. From then on, the city enjoys a relatively dry yet still comfortable season. As a result of its agreeable weather, flowers blossom throughout the year.

Kunming is also the political, economic, communications and cultural center of Yunnan, and is the seat of the provincial government. With about 26 ethnic Minorities inhabited in this city, Kunming has a colorful minorities’ culture. The most famous festivals here are the Torch festival of Yi people, the Golden Temple Fair and so on. Some noteworthy travel spots include the Dianchi Lake, the Cuihu Lake, the Village of Ethnic Culture, the Jindian Park, the Western Mountain Forest Reserve, the Stone Forest,the Yuantong Mountain, the Grand View Pavilion, and the Qiongzhu Temple.

In 1999 the World Horticultural Exhibition was held here with activities throughout Yunnan province. The event led to a boom in building, infrastructure and tourism facilities. And with the ongoing development, Kunming is edging itself towards being the most outstanding city for travel in China. Kunming has lots of eye-catching architecture in its myriad of squares, along with shopping districts and other pedestrian streets.The city also comes with a good number of restaurants and Western-style bars and attracts as many backpackers as it does hikers.
