Located in the temperate zone, Shijiazhuang experiences continental climate with four clearly demarcated seasons. The annual average temperature is 13ºC. The annual precipitation is about 550mm and the Black frost period can last 220 days. Daytime maximums in the coldest month (January) are around 2ºC(36ºF), while in July, the mercury peaks at around 33ºC(91ºF). From late autumn to early spring, it is very dry and windy with little rainfalls. In summer it is very hot while winter is cold. The most agreeable time is

September and October when it is sunny and mild in temperature. It is therefore recommended that tourists planning on visiting Shijiazhuang do so in the autumn, when the temperature lies at a happy medium between the two extremes. Nevertheless, for fans of folk arts, the best time to visit the city is in the Lantern Festival (the 15th day of the 1st month according to the Chinese lunar calendar). On that day, there are many folk art performances on stage.
