Hailar, located in the boundary of the northeast China and lies in the connection between western of Daxing'anling Ranges and high plain of Hulunbuir, is a city with the average elevation about 650 meters. The city enjoys a temperate continental monsoon climate with the four distinct seasons here. The annual temperature in Hailar is around 16 degrees celsius and the annual rainfall is around 550 mm. 110 frost-free days and sunshine-time accounts for 2,800 hours each year. The best time to visit Hailar is July, August and September, since the green grassland and cool temperature there. Guests can enjoy the beautiful scenery riding on the horse. But, the temperature difference is large in summer, guests also need to wear the coat in the evening. From November to February next year, it is the winter period of Hailar and the city will full of snow and the temperature will drop to -30 degrees celsius. It is the best place for the guests to skate and ski there.

Planning a trip to Hailer in May or August. What is the temperature? Is it uncomfortably hot in August? Much better in May?

It is dry and chilly in May in Hailer. The general temperature is from 3C to 18C; it is much warmer in August, the general temperature ranges from 12C to 24C. It is just plain hot, so your worry is not necessary. You can enjoy different landscape of grassland in different seasons. However, there are fewer mosquitos in May.
