Mutianyu Great Wall

Mutianyu, one of the most popular Great Wall destinations in China, is the main defensive fortification to the north of Beijing and has protected the capital and the nearby Ming Tombs for many hundreds of years. It is Located in Huairou County about 45 miles from Beijing, connecting Juyongguan Pass in the west and Gubeikou Great Wall in the east. The wall enjoys a long history, first built in Northern Qi Dynasty (550 - 557), and been rebuilt in Ming Dynasty to strengthen its defensive potential.

Mutianyu Great Wall winds about 1.4 miles through lofty mountains with 22 watch towers distributed at close intervals along it. Many of the walls are made of stones, bricks and granite, which make the wall almost indestructible. Both of the inner wall and out wall have parapets to defend against enemies coming from the two sides. Branch wall which connected with the main wall were built in this area to occupy the high-point of the mountain. Mutianyu Great Wall is also famous for its breath-taking beautiful scenery. Woods cover over 96% of the total scenic area. So it gained the honor: the most beautiful Great Wall in China.
