  • Beijing is located in the northeastern corner of China. It is 43 metres above sea level and 183 kilometres from the sea. Beijing covers an area of 16,800 square kilometres, 38% of which is plane with mountains covering 62%. Beijing has a warm temperature zone,climate characterized by cold dry winters and hot humis summers. The average rainfall in Beijing is only around 650 mm, most of which comes during the summer months of July and August. January is the coldest month with an average temperature of only 4.5ºC. July is often the hottest month with an average of 28ºC.
