Universicities in Beijing

Beijing, as the capital city of China, has many famous colleges in the country, such as: Peking University, Tsinghua University and Renmin University. In order to face the challenge of 21st century and create world-class insititutions, the Ministry of Education issued the Project 211, which includes more than 100 top universities and colleges in China and almost 1/4 of which are the colleges in Beijing. The figure of 21 and 1 within the 211 are the abbreviation of the 21st century and approximate 100 universities respectively. The project aims at cultivating the high-level elites for national economy and social development strategies. And the universities listed in the Project have to meet scientific, technical and HR standards and to offer set advanced degree programs. Nowadays, China has more than 1,700 universities and colleges for the higher education and only about 6% of them are listed in the Project 211 Institutions. The Project 211 schools take on the responsibility of training four-fifths of doctoral students, two-thirds of graduate students, half of students abroad and one-third of undergraduates. They offer 85% of the State's key subjects; hold 96 percent of the State's key laboratories; and utilize 70% of scientific research funding.

Tsinghua University, won the 13 consecutive years’ No. 1 University in China, is the key university of China. After taking the College Entrance Exam, the students who can study in the Tsinghua University will have a promising job and a bright future and they will be regarded as the honor of their family. Peking University is another key university in Beijing as famous as the Tsinghua University. The two universities are the leading universicites in China both in education and academy. The relationship of the two universicities just like the famous University of Oxford and University of Cambridge in UK. After entering into the 21st century, the two univercities put more focus on the communication with other univercities in the world. They hold many international symposiums and speeches, which attract many famous and world renowned speechmakers to share their beilieve and wisdom with the Chinese students, such as the former Prime Minister of the United Kingdom Tony Blair; the former Prime Minister of former Yugoslavia, Milan Panic, etc. There are many other famous universities in Beijing, such as: Renming University, Beijing Science and Technology University, Beijing Foreign Language University, Beijing University of Aeronautics and Astronautics, …etc.
